IRS Scheduled Phone Forum Regarding Ethical Standards Of Practice Before IRS Applicable To Employee Benefits Practitioners

IRS has scheduled a phone forum regarding ethical standards of practice before IRS applicable to employee benefits practitioners on July 29. As described by the agency, the discussion will focus primarily on Circular 230, which defines such standards, as well as related tax and administrative issues and commentary. Those planning to participate have until July 28 to submit a specific issue for speakers to address. According to IRS, enrolled agents and enrolled retirement plan agents may earn continuing professional education (CPE) credit for attending the entire phone forum. The phone forum is also intended to meet the CPE requirements for enrolled actuaries, but IRS said that the final decision rests with the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries. Other professional groups should contact their licensing agencies regarding acceptability of credit.
