IRS Had Received 98,562,000 Individual Income Tax Returns
As of the week ending April 8, IRS had received 98,562,000 individual income tax returns, which was slightly less than it received during a comparable period in 2010. (IR 2011-44) The agency has processed 95,806,000 of those returns. E-filed returns totaled 83,662,000, an 8.1% increase over 2010. Returns prepared by tax professionals were up by 3,500,000 (or 7.2%), and self-prepared returns jumped by 2,680,000 (or 9.8%). Almost 80,900,000 refunds, totaling $234.2 billion, were paid out. The average refund amounted to $2,895, a modest decline of $45 when compared to 2010.
